Ode to Erinn

I really lucked out when she agreed to marry me.

She had a birthday this week. I believe she’s getting more beautiful, inside and out, with every passing year. The earth has rotated around the sun 45 times with her on it and it is a much better place because of it. We had so much fun celebrating her birthday this week. Cate made dinner for us. Barbecued steak, all the trimmings, and a homemade chocolate cake. She also decorated the house with balloons and streamers. Then we watched a movie of her choice afterwards, and ordered movie popcorn to go with it.

It was so much fun.

I really lucked out when she agreed to marry me.

She’s at work right now. It is raining outside but that doesn’t stop her. Things are very different now with COVID. No more indoor drop-ins. She and her team will be serving over 100 meals and giving out grocery bags full of necessities to folks who are either homeless or under housed today. She really loves the people in her community. She cries with them. She laughs with them. She mourns with them. She worships God with them. She feels as though she is receiving at least as much as she is giving when she is amongst them. In fact, there is no 'us and them' with her; it is all 'us'.

I really lucked out when she agreed to marry me.

She is an incredible mom to Cate. They laugh together. They cry together. They travel together. I have told Cate on more than a few occasions that she is lucky to have a mom like her because I wouldn’t have the patience to ever do what Erinn does for her:)

I really lucked out when she agreed to marry me.

She is an amazing wife to me. I am no picnic (if I needed to tell you that:) I am often whiny about my health or any number of other things. I am opinionated. I am in a wheelchair and sleep in a hospital bed. I can’t join her in many of the things she loves to do. But yet she bounces ideas off of me. She laughs/groans at my jokes. She sticks by me through thick and thin.
She loves me.

She always has a smile. She keeps our house tidy, because me and Cate sure don’t. She prepares most of our meals. She even buys our groceries because I can’t drive anymore. She juggles a whole bunch of different balls and keeps them all in the air.

I really love her.

Did I mention that I really lucked out when she agreed to marry me?
